Talha Amjad selected for LFX Mentorship 2026 at CNCF, contributing to Volcano

We are proud to celebrate Talha Amjad, a Dev Weekends fellow, on being selected for LFX Mentorship 2026 Term 3 under the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF).

Talha Amjad, selected mentee in LFX Mentorship 2026

What he will be working on

Talha will be contributing to Volcano, the CNCF batch scheduling system built on Kubernetes for AI, machine learning and high-performance workloads. His project is Generic xPU Topology-Aware Scheduling: teaching the scheduler to understand how GPUs, NPUs and other accelerators are physically connected, so that jobs land on hardware that talks to itself fast. It is the kind of infrastructure problem that every large AI training cluster runs into, and the code he writes will run in production clusters around the world.

CNCF accepted 59 mentorship projects for Term 3. Each one is a paid, mentored, three-month engagement on a real open source codebase, with a maintainer reviewing your work. Getting one is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to production-grade open source and grow alongside the global community.

In his words

"A goal I once wrote down is now a reality." Special thanks to Dev Weekends for building my love for engineering and introducing me to open source, where that passion found a real direction.

How this fits the bigger picture

Earlier this year, 9 Dev Weekends contributors got into Google Summer of Code 2026, and 5 more into other open source programs. Talha's selection adds a CNCF project to that list, and it follows the same quiet road: show up on weekends, pick a codebase, get your first pull request reviewed, keep going.

If you want to walk it too, the Fellowship is where most of these stories start, and the Discord is where the conversations happen.

Congratulations, Talha. We are proud to see Dev Weekends fellows turning their learning and contributions into opportunities like this.
